We no longer live in a time of ignorance. All of the secrets of the world are being revealed, and this is especially true for spiritual knowledge.
We are all divine spiritual beings, but we require a suit of material energy (we call it our "body") in order to live in a material world.
Because we use the body to interact with this world we naturally identify with it. But as long as we continue to do so, we remain trapped in this world life after life. However, when we learn about our spiritual identity as beings that lives independently of the body, we become capable of freeing ourselves from this world of birth and death, and take steps toward our spiritual emancipation. Spiritual Evolution has nothing to do with any so-called "religion." However, it can be understood as a universal religion, or eternal religion, whose principles apply to everyone, everywhere, and at all times. Spiritual Evolution is not just knowing about your spiritual nature, but realizing it. Realizing yourself as a spiritual being, completely separate from your body.
Here’s the short story:
You’re a spiritual being, a being of spiritual energy, but you are living in a material world. What is spiritual energy? We can understand it by its qualities. It is personal, conscious, with emotions, feelings, desires, personality, like and dislikes. All people are spiritual energy. Spiritual energy is also eternal – no beginning and no end. And for this time that is called "your life" you live in a material world, with the aid of a body of material energy.
Material energy on the other hand, has no personality. It is temporary, dull and unconscious. Your body is made of material energy, and it is you, the spiritual energy that uses them. After all, as a spiritual being you require a suitable vehicle to function in this material world.
You can live here if you want, and experience the material energy in many different ways. You want to experience life as a man? You will be given the body of a man. Or do you want to experience life as a woman? You will be given a female body to do so. Or would you like to swim effortlessly in the sea? You can have one of the millions of aquatic forms as you like. Or a bird, a horse, a spider, or any of the other 8 million forms of life. It’s all up to you.
Yes, you have had millions of lives in the past, and you can have as many as you like in the future, as you like.
However, this material world is incompatible with our spiritual nature. We desire to be always happy but too often we suffer. We want to be always youthful and fit, but alas, our body will eventually get old and tired.
We don’t want to die, but nothing in this material world lasts forever, and we will all eventually be faced with death. And no matter how happy we may be today, it will not last forever. Due to the incompatibility between spirit and matter our efforts to be happy here will always meet with frustration.
However, there is another world, a world that is compatible with our spiritual nature. A spiritual world. In that world there is no suffering, no disease, no old age, and no death. In that world we are always happy, and even blissful. It is a world that is compatible with our own spiritual nature. And we can go there if we want to.
